Reggae singer Damian “Junior Gong” Marley has started the awards season on a great footing.

On Monday, word came that Marley, who is the son of reggae great Bob Marley, was nominated for a Grammy Award in the reggae category for his project Stony Hill. Then on Wednesday night the artiste picked up his first trophy of the season when he won the Britain-based Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Award for Best Reggae Act.

Marley beat fellow Jamaican acts Aidonia, Alkaline, Chronixx and Popcaan for his first hold on this award.

It has been four months since Marley released Stony Hill, his first album in 12 years, and the artiste is still upbeat about the prospects for the project.
